During physical education classes elementary students learn the connections between activity and a healthy body. Using the “Golden Rule” of compassionate behavior, students engage in a variety of game, dance and sports activities. Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classes emphasize healthy bodies and improved motor skills gained through fun activities. Third grade students play lead-up games to learn and improve their game skills. Fourth and fifth grade students begin playing team sports. Fitness is assessed using the Presidential Youth Fitness Program FitnessGram for students in third through fifth grade. All physical education classes also discuss proper personal health habits to maintain one’s health.
