Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is an after school book club designed to encourage students to read and become familiar with a wide variety of books.

Students read and come together in teams to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read by competing in game show style battles. SJA offers Battle of the Books to students in fourth and fifth grade as well as students in sixth through eighth grade. Students who are interested in participating in Battle of the Books should speak with their homeroom teacher for more information.

In March of 2025, 21 of our SJA students proudly represented our school at the largest Diocese of Joliet Battle of the Books competition in over a decade, with 10 schools and over 250 students gathering at the Cathedral of St. Raymond! After months of preparation and countless pages read, our teams had an incredible showing:

🏆 4th Grade Team – 1st Place
🏆 5th Grade Team – 1st Place
🥉 Junior High Team – 3rd Place

In a new individual competition round, our 8th graders truly impressed:

🥇 Damian S. – 1st Place
🥈 Jude D. – 2nd Place
