Junior High Language Arts

Language Arts

In junior high, the students read a variety of novels and complete an in-depth analysis of each. Along with novels, they read a literature based anthology that includes informational text. A variety of reading strategies are applied to each lesson.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary study is used to enhance writing, reading, and test taking skills. Our text is Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop. The strategies introduced allow students to learn to use context clues to understand the meaning of hundreds of words.

English

Students are taught grammar, usage and mechanics. These concepts are reinforced with the use of Simple Solutions workbooks.

Writing

Students use the six traits of writing to practice the writing process and create formal and informal essays. The presentation of essays is reserved for public speaking class on Fridays.
