PSO Hosting

I would like to extend a thank you to Mrs. Jessi Jaeger and the hot lunch volunteers who hosted the annual student-staff holiday buffet on Wednesday this week.  This event and the St. Joan of Arc School staff breakfast next week hosted by PSO president, Mrs. Karen Ebey, and the PSO serve to bring the school community together and a wonderful way to mark this season of sharing.

Called by Name

Recently our seventh grade class attended Called By Name, an event hosted by the Diocese of Joliet to encourage vocations.  Hundreds of junior high school students from the Diocese of Joliet gathered at St. Issac Jogues in Hinsdale to participate in event s such as Catholic Trivia (SJA defeated 28 other schools!), Seminarian Basketball and Vocation Stories, and a Vocation Fair.  I attended along with SJA junior high school religion teacher, Mr. Fox.  I found the event to be quite inspirational as well as fun.  Students filled every inch of seating space at St. Issac Jogues church and to hear them sing as one voice was an exhilarating experience.   We will definitely attend Called by Name next year.

Geography Bee

The preliminary rounds of the National Geographic Geography Bee will be held in grades 5-8 on Tuesday, January 4 during social studies classes.  If you are in need of diversion during Christmas break, you can direct your child to the National Geographic Bee website where there are always three ten question quizzes available for daring students.  I will be serving as the Geography Bee moderator.

St. Joan of Arc Scholars at Benet Academy

I receive occasional updates from principals at high schools where St. Joan of Arc graduates are excelling academically.  In November a number of our recent graduates were recognized for their academic achievements.  Listed below are the following Benet students, class of 2016, who were among Benet seniors and one junior honored for their performance on multiple Advanced Placement (A.P.) examinations.

A.P. Scholars with Honor:  Brittany Mankowski, Aidan O’Dea, and Stephanie Wolf

  1. P. Scholar: Dylan Hinz, Nikhil Jacob (class of 2017), Daniel Soblewski

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation honored 27 Benet seniors as “Commended Students” placing them among the top 5% of more than 1.6 billion students nationwide who entered who sat for the qualifying test (PSAT/NMSQT).  An additional ten members of the class of 2017 were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists, including two St. Joan of Arc  graduates listed below.
