To keep reading motivation high and to encourage children to develop into confident, independent readers, Pizza Hut offers the Book It! Program. Book It runs from October to April. And when the children meet the requirements set by their teacher they receive a ticket for a free personal size pizza once a month.
Ozzie's Reading Club is an eight-week reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars along with Provena Mercy Medical Center. The program is open to children in grades 6-8; however, to participate, a student's school must be a member of the Ozzie’s Reading Club program.
Ozzie’s Reading Club tracks the progress of a student’s reading around the bases of a baseball diamond with the three bases and home plate representing two weeks worth of reading. Each teacher may determine his or her own reading requirements for each base. Students completing the program’s requirements “hit a home run” and earn a free ticket to an April or May Cougars game designated by their school. Other rewards may include a bookmark,concession and reward voucher.
Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club
The Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club is part of Read To Succeed, a free educational program designed to enhance language curriculum. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading in a period of time set by the school will earn a free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks.
Each year twenty books are selected to be on the Monarch Book List. These books have been nominated by Illinois students in Grades K-3 as some of the best published in the last 5 years. The book that receives the most votes will be awarded the 2009 award.
Voting Guidelines
- Read or listen to at least 5 of the nominated books to be eligible to vote for the winner.
- Vote for your favorite book.
- All votes will count.
The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award was developed to encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. It is an Illinois award for outstanding literature for young people and is sponsored by the Illinois Reading Council, the Illinois School Library Media Association, and the Illinois Association of Teachers of English. Books are nominated by children in grades 4-8.There are 20 books.
Students read the books on the list beginning during the summer and ending in February. They vote for their favorite book at a pizza luncheon in February.Students must read 3 of the SJA approved Caudill books and take a quickie quiz.
