Principal Letter for June 6, 2018
Principal Letter for June 6, the Final Day of School for 2017-2018
We have successfully completed the 2017-2018 school year which is indeed reason to give thanks. At our year end Mass this morning, Fr. Gabriel commented on how much he misses the presence of students and their enthusiastic singing at Friday Mass during the summer break. I concur with Fr. Gabriel and look forward to the new school year.
Have a relaxing and joyous summer break and sage travels to wherever your travels lead you. Although I know from experience it is difficult, I encourage all families to engage in daily reading time and limit “tech time.” As the immortal Dr. Suess noted, “ The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go .”
Staffing for 2018-2019
As I noted in my last letter, we say goodbye to Mrs. Joniak, who has headed our excellent student resource program and who has been a fine advocate for St. Joan of Arc students in securing services from our local school district. We wish Mrs. Joniak well as she moves into retirement. I am confident that Mrs. Ouellette, Mrs. Joniak’s longtime colleague in the Student Learning Program, and Mrs. Barenbrugge, the newest member of the SLP team, will provide consistency and the same level of student services.
Also, with grade five being a single class next year, Mrs. Casey will not be returning as fifth grade teacher. I would like to acknowledge Mrs. Casey’s service to St. Joan of Arc in her roles as school parents, classroom aide, and, most recently, classroom teacher.
School Advisory Board and Parent Student Organization
We also say goodbye to three hard working members of the School Advisory Board: Patty Walz, Mark Hasse, and Ann Johnson. I thank them for their combined years of service to SJA and contributions to our school community. Jennifer Hantsch, Nick Solano, and Heather Madsen will be filling the vacated SAB positions.
Karen Ebey and Gina Clinnin have completed their terms as PSO Executive Board Members. We have benefitted from their tireless efforts managing the numerous and varied events we enjoy during the year. Debbie Campbell and Amanda McIntyre have graciously agreed to assume the vacated positions.
Lectors and Altar Servers
I would like to thank the young men and women who served as lectors and altar servers during the school year. Our altar servers performed their roles with grace and respect and our lectors were articulate in delivery and thoughtful in preparation.
