Principal Letter for November 02, 2018
SJA Food Policy
We have a number of students with allergies to various foods that range in severity. This is the rationale for our school food policy. SJA’s policy is straightforward: the distribution of edible treats and any/all food stuffs and beverages will not be permitted by students, parents, or teachers. Please be mindful of this policy, especially on holidays and birthdays when it might be very tempting to bring a treat to your child’s classroom.
Parent – Teacher Conferences will take place on Monday, November 19 from 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM. Sign up now on School Speak to reserve a time that fits into your schedule!
Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
We recently received the results of the ITBS tests that were administered in Grades 2 – 8 in September. Test result will be sent home with students next Friday, November 9. I will have more to say about our school wide ITBS results before Parent – Teacher Conferences.
Teachers in Grades 1 – 5 have been using the Celebrate Children booklet at the end of the school week to prepare students to hear and understand the Liturgy of the Word at Sunday Mass. Celebrate Children offers teachers a number of activities to share with students to illuminate the meaning of the week’s Readings and Gospel on a level that will appeal to, and be understood, by children.
Graduates of St. Joan of Arc School
Benet Academy recently announced three SJA graduates as 2019 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students. Reece Anderson, Ethan Camba, and Matthew Kickel, 2015 graduates of SJA, were among 29 Benet seniors who were honored as “Commended Students,” placing them among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.6 million students nationwide who entered the 2019 competition.
Thank you for supporting Catholic education,
