Principal Letter for Friday, March 16

The Gospel of Easter is very clear: we need to go back there, to see Jesus risen, and to become witnesses of his Resurrection. This is not to go back in time; it is not a kind of nostalgia. It is returning to our first love, in order to receive the fire which Jesus has kindled in the world and to bring that fire to all people, to the very ends of the earth.                                                                                                                              (Pope Francis, Easter Vigil Homily, 2014 )

Easter Living Stations

A much anticipated traditional Lenten event at St. Joan of Arc School is the Living Stations of the Cross. The Stations are presented with great reverence by our seventh and eighth grade students. Parents are welcome to attend either the 10:00 AM or 12:30 PM Living Stations in Collins Gymnasium.

Five Year Plan

The five committees working to complete the St. Joan of Arc School Five Year Plan (FYP) are nearing completion of their tasks. I expect the FYP to be finished and ready for distribution in early May. Thank you to all committee members who have worked diligently to create a path forward for SJA School.

School Advisory Board (SAB) Discernment

If you are interested in serving as member of the School Advisory Board for a three year term beginning in September 2018, please contact me at school. I can be reached at 630-969-1732 or at  .

Hearts for Haiti

He that is inclined to mercy shall be blessed; for of his bread he has given to the poor.  Prov. 22:9.

Thank you to all those students and parents who have donated to our Lenten Service Project, Hearts for Haiti. To date we have raised over $2,100 and this sum will contribute to the construction of housing in Haiti. This service project is part of the international Catholic Cross-Cultural Relief program that serves the needs of the poor around the world.

SJA Students on High School Honor Rolls

Thanks to the dedication of our teachers, the work ethic of our students, and the support of our parent community, St. Joan of Arc graduates are always prepared for the academic rigors of high school. Please note the numerous SJA graduates who earned Honor Roll placement at both Benet Academy and St. Frances High School for the recently concluded second trimester (see link below for the names). Congratulations to one and all and continued success.

Science Fair

Congratulations to SJA eighth grade student, Nicole Eldrenkamp, who earned a Gold Medal at the Region II Science Fair held at St. Frances University in Joliet last week.

Thank you for supporting Catholic education,

Michael Sweeney
