Jr. High - Mathematics

According to our Holt Mathematics series, middle school mathematic instruction occurs at a critical time in students’ development and must address the needs specific to this period of learning. Throughout this period, students can and should understand mathematical ideas, compute fluently, solve problems, and engage in logical reasoning. Traditional paper and pencil skills are emphasized throughout the program but are supplemented with technology, manipulatives, and math labs.

Materials: The students should come prepared to every class with their textbook, spiral notebook, pencil, loose-leaf, graph paper, and folder.

Textbooks:

  • Holt Mathematics Course 1 and Course 2svitak
  • Holt Pre-Algebra
  • Holt Algebra
  • Prentice Hall Geometry

Evaluation:

  • Homework is assigned daily and should be completed in the spiral notebook. Approximately once a week, a homework assignment will be collected and graded. Notebooks will be collected and graded periodically.
  • POTW (Problem of the Week) is assigned on Friday and due the following Thursday.
  • Quizzes and Tests will be announced usually 2-3 days in advance.
  • Attitude, effort, interest, and good note taking will help determine a final grade.

Calculator Policy:

Calculators will be provided by the teacher when needed. A calculator at home would be helpful.
