We are coming closer to the end of the year. It seems to be coming all too fast for me!
Last week in Religion, we thought about the things God commands of us. Even though the children cannot say the Ten Commandments verbatim in order, they are well aware of the things they tell us we must do to remain close to God. The children also know that Jesus commands us to love one another.
I math, we have been doing some reviewing and finishing up some last few concepts.
I will have the portal remain open all summer. I will be working on it and adding some new things. You can use it to help your child review all summer long. Then, your child will be better prepared to return to school in September.
On Wednesday, we will be seeing our buddies to share some time and a treat. You may wish for your child to bring a little gift or homemade card to thank them for helping to care for your child this past year. Our fifth grade buddies are a true blessing to the kindergarten!
High frequency words for this week are how and where.
If your child has not brought back the bag of books or ring words, please have him/her bring these to school as soon as possible.
On Friday, the children will be performing first in the gym and then proceeding to the PAR for refreshments. The children should wear dress up clothing fitting for a tea. You may wish to send a change of clothing for outdoor play.
Have a wonderful week!

In Religion this past week, we talked about last week’s Gospel, thought about how each day we can bring some good into the world all by ourselves, reviewed the many things we have learned about our Blessed Mother, looked at the meaning of the rosary and attended the beautiful May crowning in the church.
Mother’s Day surprises came home in a large white envelope. I hope every mom received hers.
A few late invitations to the Mother’s Tea came home in some folders this week. The tea is on the 25th. If you did not receive yours, please contact me.
In math, we reviewed numbers 11 through 20 and took a look at decomposing these numbers. We reviewed place value with tens and ones. Some of the children began to look at the hundreds place.
Our high frequency words for this week are into and just.
Be sure to return all library books. We can no longer check out books. Inventory needs to be taken.
On Friday, we will attend the Volunteer Appreciation Mass.
Please remember to send your child with spoons and forks necessary for their lunches. We do not have extras in our classroom. When the children go to the office to ask for one, the child really should replace the item the next day.
There have been about 12, 000 visits to our portal for this year. I hope you have found it as helpful as some of the parents have expressed to me. I will keep it open for the summer to help you with reviewing concepts. I will be doing some work on the portal, but will allow your access for the summer months.
Have a great week!

This is a difficult week for us. We are saddened by the losses and challenges our SJA family has suffered this week. Prayer is my only answer.
In Religion last week, we talked about the gospel and reviewed the Good Shepherd, learned the Pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, talked about Saint Joseph the worker, and set up our May alter for Mary.
In math, we have been completing some reassessment, used the calculators to discover what happens each time we add or subtract one from any whole number, met Allie the alligator to compare numbers, reviewed addition and subtraction with pictures, discovered balance scales, and played King of the Hill for facts practice.
In the afternoon, we read, wrote and drew pictures from the rainforest. We began to look at some fun stories about dinosaurs.
Our high frequency words for this week are your, any, and ride.
Have a blessed week!

One does not have to look far to “see” God. When my son was about one and one half years old, he was very fascinated by the dining room curtains moving all by themselves during the spring afternoons. Each afternoon he would grab me by the hand, pull me into the dining room, point to the curtains and exclaim, “OOOOO!” I told him the wind was doing that. You cannot see the wind, but you can see what it does. We too cannot see God, but we can see what He does. With all the weather reports about rain fore-casted for last Wednesday, the rain was held off for our field trip. God was right there with us!
During Mass this morning, my pastor brought up a point about what it means to be a Catholic. As followers of Christ, we share in the true meaning of Eucharist. We carry on what Christ began by the call from God since our Baptism. Many, many of our ancestors died to keep the Catholic Church and the work of Christ alive on this earth. By our Baptism, we are called to do the same. That was a startling thought! It is also reality. Are you ready to do this? I know I am basically a coward and would rather not do this. I am sure I am not alone with my fears. Father admitted it would be hard for most of us, but there is an alternative to just ignoring the possibility. We don’t have to just sit in fear of the possibility either. We can pray for strength and courage. We cannot see God, but He is there. Our Good Shepherd will not abandon us.
In Religion, we will be talking about saints, the Good Shepherd, popes, and May as Mary’s month.
In math, we have some little odds and end to cover. We also need to reassess for those still working on certain topics. One of the new topics you will find on the portal is on measuring weight. There are some virtual scales the children will be looking at later this week and/or next week. The children have been really enjoying the “King of the Hill” game. I did some updating on the portal. I listed some statistics so you have an idea of how your child is doing next to the average score for studying the facts.
I wanted also to thank the moms who came along on the field trip. You were wonderful to be there for us!
Summer is sneaking up on us faster than I wish. If you are looking for a tutor for your child, there is a list on the blog of available tutors.
Have a wonderful week!

This week we will be going on our field trip to see our community helpers. Be sure the children are wearing casual clothing appropriate for the day’s weather and comfortable gym shoes for a great deal of walking. We will eat our snack before we leave. For lunch, pack your child’s lunch in a brown bag. Be sure the child has a drink in a disposable container(s). If it rains, the trip will be postponed.
In Religion, we will be talking about the many things the Bible gives to us. We will meet the evangelist called Mark in the Bible.
In math, we will revisit some previous concepts and reassess some of the children’s progress. The children have begun a game of King of the Hill. Your child can practice for this math facts game in the portal. The portal is for all kindergarten children in all three homerooms. If the child’s code name is not found listed on one of the category headings, the child is welcomed to visit any category in the portal. Supervise your child for safety on the portal.
High frequency words for this week are no, ask, and came.
On Friday, we will see the production of Beauty and the Beast.
Have a wonderful week!
